A birthday on a boat in Komodo, hour by hour over three days
Updated 26 October 2026
A birthday on a private boat in Komodo fits the 3D2N route. Day 1 brings a toast at Kalong at dusk, day 2 the Padar group photo and a Pink Beach swim, and day 3 a slow snorkel. Carnaby 1 costs IDR 75,000,000 (≈ USD 4,601) for 11 to 14 guests. Cake and decoration are quoted separately.
The route this plan sits on
A 3D2N works for a birthday because it gives you a dusk, a full day of stops and a quiet last morning, each with its own kind of moment. We lay the plan over the published private route of Carnaby 1. Day 1 is Kelor, Manjarite and Kalong. Day 2 is Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Taka Makassar and Manta Point. Day 3 is Sebayur and Kanawa.
Carnaby 2 lists a different 3D2N route: Rinca in place of Komodo Island, and Padar as a sunset stop on day 2. On that boat the group photo moves from morning to evening and the rest of the plan shifts with it. The cues stay the same; only the hours change.
Now the limit. Stops and their order can change with traffic, weather and tides, and the captain decides on the day. The exact spot for the toast and its minute are the captain's call. We give clock times only where the light fixes them. Everything else is a window: morning, midday or dusk.
The birthday is day 2. Day 1 is the eve, and day 3 is the slow exit.
Day 1, from the harbour to the bats at dusk
The run of show for the first day looks like this:
- Morning: pickup in Labuan Bajo. The time and the meeting point are confirmed in writing with your booking.
- Late morning: boarding, the welcome, cabins handed out to the pairs on your list.
- Midday: lunch on board.
- Afternoon: the short Kelor hill walk, a climb of 15 to 30 minutes on a steep, dry path, then snorkelling at Manjarite.
- Dusk: Kalong. In August the sun sets at about 18:00, and the flying foxes leave the mangroves about 15 minutes later.
- Evening: dinner on board.
Kalong is the first toast. Nobody goes ashore; you watch the bats from the deck, so the whole group is in one place with a clear view and nothing to organise. That's why the first cue goes here rather than at lunch.
All the guest of honour needs to hear is that dusk at Kalong is worth being outside for. Where the boat spends the night depends on the weather and the captain's decision that day.
Day 2, the birthday itself
Padar comes first. Since 1 April 2026 the park takes visitors to Padar in booked sessions through the morning, midday and afternoon, so the slot we reserve sets the hour of your climb. For a birthday we request the morning one. In August the sun clears the horizon at 06:12, and the walk to the main viewpoint takes 25 to 45 minutes.
From the viewpoint you look over three bays, each with a different colour of sand, and that's where 14 to 21 people line up for the group photo. A guide and photo or video documentation are not included on a private charter. Both are available on request and quoted separately, and this is the stop where they're most worth having.
Back on board there is breakfast, then Pink Beach for the swim. The sand there is pale pink, not bright pink, and mornings give the calmer water. After that comes the ranger-led walk on Komodo Island. Park tickets and ranger fees are never part of the fare.
The afternoon holds Taka Makassar, a sandbar that shows only at low tide, and Manta Point, where the current carries the snorkellers along the reef. The tide decides which comes first.
Dusk is for the cake. It comes up on deck once the captain has settled the anchorage, so give the crew a window rather than a minute. Plan the cue for about half an hour before sunset, with the guest of honour on the deck and the phones ready.
Day 3, a slow last morning
Sebayur and Kanawa close the route. Sebayur has beaches and reef for the swim, and Kanawa has shallow coral that makes an easy last snorkel. Neither asks for a climb, which suits a group that has already walked two hills.
Keep this morning for the small things: cards and gifts handed round at breakfast, and the playlist the group put together. Nothing needs a countdown, and nobody has to hold a phone up for a photo.
If the group wants one more picture, ask the crew for the deck shot at the end of breakfast, when everyone is still in the same place and the light is low across the water.
The boat returns to Labuan Bajo harbour on day 3, and the time is confirmed. Book flights well after it. A dash to the airport would undo the whole slow morning.
Cake, candles and what the crew needs to know
A cake, decoration, flowers, a photographer or a musician are never included in the fare; they can be arranged on request and are quoted separately. Candles are a request too.
We arrange cabin or deck decoration, a special dinner for a birthday and a photographer, each quoted separately. A cake, flowers and a musician are not on that list, so those go through a request. Bringing your own cake aboard is confirmed for your boat and date.
The organiser's note: brief the crew by message before sailing, not on the jetty with the guest of honour standing next to you. Send the name, the moment, the day and the spot you would like, and accept that the weather has the last word.
Whatever decoration you plan, keep it tied down. Our note on Komodo park rules for a party explains why loose items do not belong near the water.
What a birthday for 12 or 18 costs each
For 12 friends on Carnaby 1 the whole boat is IDR 75,000,000 (≈ USD 4,601), which is IDR 6,250,000 (≈ USD 383) per person. The 11 to 14 guest band covers up to 14.
For 18 guests on Carnaby 2 the boat is IDR 140,000,000 (≈ USD 8,589), or IDR 7,780,000 (≈ USD 477) per person. The 17 to 21 guest band covers up to 21.
To fit the same cues into two days, the 2D1N route keeps the Kalong dusk and the Padar morning and drops Day 3. Carnaby 1 for 7 to 10 guests is IDR 65,000,000 (≈ USD 3,988) on that route. The stop list for Carnaby 2's 2D1N is agreed with you before you pay.
Who pays for what: the fare covers the boat, crew, harbour transfer, meals, coffee, tea and water, snacks and fruit, towels, life jackets and snorkelling gear. You pay the park fees, flights, hotel, insurance and crew gratuities. Guide, documentation, decoration, cake and a photographer are on request, quoted separately.

FAQ
Can I celebrate a birthday on a private boat in Komodo?
Yes. A private charter is your group's boat for the whole trip, and the 3D2N route holds a dusk at Kalong, a Padar morning and a Pink Beach swim. Cake and decoration are arranged on request and quoted separately, never included in the fare.
Is two days enough for a birthday on a boat?
Two days keeps the two best cues, the Kalong dusk on day 1 and the Padar morning on day 2. You lose the quiet third morning and some snorkel stops. On Carnaby 2 the stop list for 2D1N is agreed before you pay.
Can we bring our own cake on board?
We confirm it for your boat and date. A cake from the crew is not a standard service either; it goes through a request and is quoted separately. Tell us the day of the birthday when you ask.
Who decides when the cake comes out?
You choose the day and the moment. The captain decides the anchorage and the exact timing on the day, because weather and tides move the stops. Give the crew a window of half an hour at dusk and not a fixed minute.
Is a photographer included for the group photo?
No. On a private charter the guide and the photo and video documentation are not included; both are available on request and quoted separately. We arrange a photographer, and a drone needs a park permit.
