Cake, drinks and music: can you bring a cake and a speaker on a boat in Komodo
Updated 26 October 2026
Whether a group can bring a cake or a speaker is something we confirm for your boat and date. Both boats have a TV and karaoke, alcohol is not included in the fare, and decoration, a special dinner and a photographer can be arranged on request. A cake can be arranged on request too.
A cake from town or one the crew arranges
Bringing your own cake is confirmed for your boat and date; we do not guess it for you.
A cake can be arranged on request and quoted separately, which is the simplest route: the cake is ordered, delivered and briefed to the crew without a box on a flight. If you prefer your own baker, ask first. Say how many guests, how large the cake is and where it needs to be kept until dusk.
A cake in a box is easy to carry from the harbour to the boat and harder to keep cool through a day of hikes. The crew cannot promise refrigeration for it unless we confirm that, so ask about storage with the same message.
Put three questions in the message about the cake: which evening, how many candles and who lights them. The cake is never in the fare. The moment for it is Kalong at sunset, when the bats leave about 15 minutes after the sun drops. The birthday page covers the birthday timing.
Drinks and alcohol: not in the fare
Free-flow coffee, tea and mineral water are in the fare, with snacks and fruit. Alcoholic beverages are an excluded item for both boats. We do not sell alcohol and we do not promote it.
Bringing your own drinks is confirmed for your boat and date. A toast at Kalong works with water, tea or whatever is agreed.
The captain's instructions come first on the water, for every guest, and a toast is a glass raised and not a reason to leave the deck. Brief the group before the evening, in the group chat, not on the sundeck.
Music, karaoke and a speaker
Both boats have a TV and karaoke in the indoor lounge. Carnaby 2's lounge has an L-shaped sofa; Carnaby 1's lounge area is listed with the same TV and karaoke. For a birthday of 14 guests or 21, the lounge is the room for the singing when the deck is wet.
A guest's own speaker is confirmed for your boat and date. The anchorage is shared water, so keep the volume considerate and the playlist ready before the toast.
Make a playlist in advance and name one person to run it. Download it before the trip, because the signal between the islands is patchy. The crew follows the captain's call on quiet hours.
A karaoke night needs a plan as much as a toast does. Decide who picks the songs, how long the slot lasts and which languages are sung. Put it after dinner, in the lounge, and leave the sundeck for the stars and the conversation.
What the park rules cover on islands
On the islands the national park's rules apply to everyone, and they cover more than a party expects: waste, noise, wildlife distance and what you can carry ashore. Our advice for a celebration is to carry nothing ashore that cannot come back in your bag. That rules out confetti, balloons, glass and anything that sheds.
The Moments on deck note on the journal page collects the sourced rules for a party. It says where no source states a rule. This guide does not repeat drone rules: the national park drone usage fee is also extra, and a park permit is required.
Komodo National Park tickets and ranger fees are never part of the fare.
Decoration: on request, never a surprise bill
Decoration for a cabin or the deck is a service we arrange. It is quoted separately and confirmed, so the figure arrives before the deposit, not after.
The rose petals, glasses and flower arrangements in some Carnaby 2 photos are staging. They are not part of the fare and are not promised to a booking. Describe what you want in your own words and we quote it. If the photos show something you like, name the photo.
Price depends on the headcount, the deck or the cabin, and the day. Keep the first request short: the occasion, the headcount, the deck or the cabin, and the evening it is for. The services page lists decoration, the special dinner and the photographer, and the dinner-on-deck page covers the dinner on deck.
FAQ
Can we bring our own cake?
We confirm it for your boat and date. A cake can also be arranged on request and quoted separately, ordered and delivered for the evening at Kalong, so the guests carry nothing.
Can we bring alcohol aboard?
Alcoholic beverages are an excluded item, so they are not in the fare. Bringing your own is confirmed for your boat and date. We do not sell or promote alcohol.
Is there a sound system on board?
Both boats have a TV and karaoke in the indoor lounge. A portable speaker brought by guests is confirmed for your boat and date. Keep the volume considerate once the boat is at anchor.
Can we use confetti or balloons?
We confirm it for your date, and the national park's rules apply on islands. Our advice is to leave both at home: pieces blow into the sea and cannot be picked up again. Ask us before you buy any, and we confirm what applies.
